Who Are We?

The FGR SUPPORTERS TRUST is the trading name of the Forest Green Rovers Supporters Society Limited and is a democratic not-for-profit organisation established and operated by fans of Forest Green Rovers Football Club.

The Trust is registered as an Industrial and Provident Society with the Financial Services Authority.

The key aim of the Trust is to purchase shares in the football club on behalf of Trust members and to give the ordinary supporter a stronger voice in the running of the club through share ownership and board representation. We also aim to help promote the club with a view to increasing the fan base and establishing the club at the heart of the Gloucestershire community.

The Trust’s full list of objects as set out in the Constitution, are:-

i. to strengthen the bonds between the Club and the community which it serves and to represent the interests of the community in the running of the Club;

ii. to benefit present and future members of the community served by the Club by promoting encouraging and furthering the game of football as a recreational facility, sporting activity and focus for community involvement;

iii. to further the development of the game of football nationally and internationally and the upholding of its rules;

iv. to encourage the Club to take proper account of the interests of its supporters and of the community it serves in its decisions;

v. to encourage and promote the principle of supporter representation on the board of any company owning or controlling the Club and ultimately to be the vehicle for democratic elections to the board;

vi. to promote, develop and respect the rights of members of the community served by the Club and people dealing with the Society as set out in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, having regard in particular to the need to provide information to members and conduct the affairs of the Society in accessible and appropriate ways:

vii. To encourage through its activities, increased support for the Club, in order to secure its long term successful future.

viii. To be a positive, inclusive and broadly representative group, open, accessible and democratically run for all supporters of the Club regardless of their sex or ethnic origin.

Why Form A Trust?

During Summer 2008, Forest Green Rovers FC intends to change its own constitution and move from being a club limited by members to one limited by shareholding. For cost and administrative reasons, it is anticipated that a minimum level of investment will be introduced. To allow the ‘ordinary’ to have the opportunity of investing in their Club, it was considered that a Trust would prove to be a suitable vehicle to allow this to happen. Further information on how the Trust came into being is available under Trust History.

The Trust will act as a collective voice on behalf of all its members. We are a totally inclusive organization open to all supporters. The Trust has its own Board, bound by our rules and the law to hold democratic elections.

Just Another Supporters Club?

Definitely not. The FGR Supporters Club will continue to operate in the way it always has, for the benefit of the football club, with any funds raised eventually being donated to the football club. Whilst the Trust will undertake fund raising, it will be for the benefit of its members and the local community and it will be the members who decide how that money is spent, in line with our constitution. Share acquisition will be the major item of expenditure, but could also include one of a number of Community activities such as promoting youth and schools football.
